Whee

I seem to be attempting to update my website rather than do anything productive. It's been about two years, so I don't really remember the password ([info]bravecows, could you email it to me?).

I just found this thread, which is hysterical. Someone who is not me really, really, really needs to write PotC/Discworld crossover, with the Luggage. And Carrot. And Norrington. And Jack. And Angua. And Nobby and Ragetti dress-shopping. C'mon, you know you want to.

(I am also watching S8 of M*A*S*H. No more Radar. I just don't know whether it's the glow fading for me or that I just don't like the direction the show went after about S5 or so.)

Whatever it is, I agree with you. I like season six, but after that M*A*S*H gets much more scattershot. There are still some gems, but they're few and far between. I think this is where my wariness of long-running shows comes from; I tend to get less up in arms than most people when a good show gets canceled/has a short run (see: Firefly, Boomtown, even Sports Night to an extent), because in some ways I'd rather have a great short show than watch a show that I love go slowly and painfully downhill. (See also: The West Wing.)

I can't remember if I liked S6. I think there's sort of a magic 6-season cap for most shows. Some shows jump the shark sooner, but they all seem to go by S6.

I do wish Firefly had at least lasted as long as Sports Night (I am resisting buying it -- [info]pearl_o hooked me on it about three years ago, but I never saw it all).

*really should not comment at five a.m. after a long fic-writing session*

Yes! There is totally a season-six curse on the majority of television, and I'm glad it's not just me and my crazy conspiracy theories. That's one of the problems with being in TV fandom; the novel ideas dry up faster, the pressures of ratings pile up. Just a function of the medium, I guess.

(and OH HOLY GOD then I guess I don't have to start foaming at the mouth and proselytizing to you, which is good, especially since I'm sure I cannot spell "proselytizing" correctly more than twice in a row.)

Re: *really should not comment at five a.m. after a long fic-writing session*

No, you don't. I'll never write Sports Night fic, but I like it very much.

(I think the book equivalent is somewhere around book 8 for most authors. Fortunately, most stop at three per 'verse. I've always found TV fandoms intimidating -- so much canon, and unless the show is cancelled, it keeps changing! I wrote a couple Smallville fics that got completely Jossed by S2, and it drives me nuts. Which is why, in a weird way, I'm glad Firefly was cancelled, just in case I ever get to writing fic -- I don't see the movies as part of the same continuity.)

I started writing one once - I know I ran across the notebook it was in a few weeks ago, but I can't find it now. Nanny and Barbossa got drunk on scumble and Ragetti saw man!Greebo running around and got eyepatch envy and I don't think I got much farther than that before my motivation died.

I don't know why people aren't writing loads of PotC/Discworld crossovers. Because it really would work so well and be awfully fun.

Augh, find it find it.

I bet it's because there are SO many awesome things you could do that it's hard to know where to start.
